Born from a hunger to share ancestral sounds in a new land, Santa Taranta burst onto the Australian music scene in 2013 when Italian musician and ethnomusicologist Salvatore Rossano brought the infectious rhythms of southern Italy's folk revival to Melbourne.

After conquering festival stages across Australia from the National Folk Festival to Fairbridge and beyond the band eventually found their homebase in Bellingen, where they continue to evolve their distinctive sound. Their powerful performances have taken them on multiple national and international tours, sharing their unique musical fusion with audiences around the world.

At their core, Santa Taranta remains dedicated to the vibrant traditions of southern Italian music. The band has expanded this foundation to include original compositions and influences from Celtic, Spanish and Argentinian folk traditions. This mix creates a genuine musical conversation where ancient traditions meet contemporary expressions.

Santa Taranta brings people together through music, regularly welcoming guest musicians who add new dimensions to their sound. The dynamic core trio of Salvatore, vocalist Hayley Egan, and Argentinian bassist Emiliano Beltzer forms the heart of the band, but the stage often fills with friends and collaborators who help create something larger than the sum of its parts.

Whether they're making you dance like a spider or weep like la Madonna, Santa Taranta delivers a musical bite that gets in your blood transforming ancient traditions into living, breathing experiences that speak to our modern world.
